The Brazilian Lobster fishery is one of the largest of the spiny lobster fisheries in the world and predominantly produces the same Panulirus argus which is also known as the Caribbean Lobster.

The Brazilian p.argus is actually made of 2 subspecies, Panulirus argus argus and Panulirus argus westoni which although are very similar, may vary in shell colour from pinky/purple to light green depending on the environment.

The Brazilian lobster fishery incorporates both small artisanal fishers as well as mid to large sized industrial boats. The fishery includes 3 known lobster species; 90% x Panulirus argus, 9% Panulirus laevicauda and 1% Panulirus echinatus. Brazilian lobsters are well regarded for being tender and sweet and often valued highest of all Caribbean Lobster origins when sold as raw tails in the US market.
